Recording Sessions

A recording session is composed of streams configured through Senders. Streams can be captured from video, audio, UDP, or RTSP.

Create Recording Sessions

To create a Recording Session:

Prerequisite

You must log in using an account with Administrator or User permissions.

  1. Navigate to Recording Sessions.

  2. In the Recording Session ribbon of the toolbar, select New.

  3. In the Name field, enter a name for the recording session.

  4. Next to the Location field, select Browse.

  5. In the Select Directory dialog, select a location to save the recording session, then select Add.

  6. In the Streams section, select the add icon .

  7. In the Add Stream dialog, double click on a Sender.

  8. Select a stream or press ctrl+click to select multiple streams.

    • Alternatively, double click on a stream to add it.
  9. Select Add.

  10. Finish setting up the recording session with one of the following options:

    Create1. Select Create.
    Result: The recording session is created and the status is set to Pending.
    2. Navigate back to Recording Sessions.
    3. When ready to record, in the Recording Sessions list, select the recording session.
    4. In the Controls ribbon of the toolbar, select Record.
    Result: The recording session starts recording and the status is changed to Recording.
    5. To stop the recording see Stop a Recording Session.
    Create + Record1. Select Create + Record.
    Result: The recording session starts recording and the status shows as Recording.
    2. To stop the recording see Stop a Recording Session.

Result: Your recording session has been created and displays on the Recording Sessions page.

Stop Recording Sessions

To stop a Recording Session:

  1. Navigate to Recording Sessions.

  2. In the Recording Sessions list, select a recording session.

  3. In the Controls ribbon of the toolbar, select Stop.

    The status of the recording changes to Finalizing.

  4. In the Recording Session ribbon of the toolbar, select Refresh.

Result: The recording session is complete and ready for viewing. See Debrief Mode for more information.

Edit Recording Sessions

To edit a Recording Session:

  1. Navigate to Recording Sessions.

  2. In the Recording Sessions list, select a recording session.

  3. In the Recording Session ribbon, select Edit, or double click the session.

  4. (Optional) To the right of the page, select the pencil icon to edit the session name.

  5. (Optional) Select a stream to apply any of the below options available:

    SettingDescription
    Add more streams to the session.
    Delete a stream from the session.
    Start a pending recording
    Stop a stream that is recording.
    View a Stream's Event Log.
    Download individual or multiple stream recordings.
    Refresh the recording session.
  6. (Optional) Select the Bookmarks tab to create, edit or delete bookmarks. See Bookmarks for more information.

Result: All updates or options are automatically applied to the recording session.

Bookmarks

Use bookmarks to create a time marker that navigates to a specified event during a debrief session. Bookmarks can be added, edited or deleted during a recording or a debrief session.

Add Bookmarks:

To add a bookmark:

  1. Navigate to Recording Sessions.
  2. In the Recording Sessions list, select a recording session.
  3. In the Recording Session ribbon, select Edit, or double click the session.
  4. Select the Bookmarks tab, and select the add icon .
  5. In the Add Bookmark dialog, add a name, time, and description.
  6. Select Add.

Result: The bookmark is added to the recording session.

Add bookmarks, with pre-populated information, when watching a recording session in Viewer Editor during a monitor or debrief session. See Monitor Mode and Debrief Mode for more information.

Edit Bookmarks:

To edit a bookmark:

  1. Navigate to Recording Sessions.

  2. In the Recording Sessions list, select a recording session.

  3. In the Recording Session ribbon, select Edit, or double click the session.

  4. Select the Bookmarks tab, and select a bookmark.

  5. Select the pencil icon or double click the bookmark.

  6. In the Edit Bookmark dialog, configure the following settings:

    SettingDescription
    NameEnter a name for the bookmark.
    TimeUpdate the time where the bookmark was placed during the recording session.
    Note: When monitoring a session, this field displays the time the bookmark was added during the recording by default.
    DescriptionAdd any notes or descriptions for the bookmark.
  7. Select Edit.

Result: Changes to the bookmark are saved to the recording session.

Delete Bookmarks:

To delete a bookmark:

  1. Navigate to Recording Sessions.
  2. In the Recording Sessions list, select a recording session.
  3. In the Recording Session ribbon, select Edit, or double click the session.
  4. Select the Bookmarks tab, and select a bookmark.
  5. Select the trash can icon under Actions, or in the top ribbon under Bookmarks.

Result: The bookmark is removed from the recording session.

Recording Sessions Page Features

The recording Sessions page has additional features to help manage your previous, current or future recording sessions.

Search Recordings

Perform a search to filter through your recording sessions to find specific recordings.

To search for a recording session:

  1. Navigate to Recording Sessions.
  2. Above the Recording Sessions list, to the right, select the search field.
  3. Type in your search term and select the magnifying glass icon or press the Enter key.

Result: The page displays recording sessions matching the search results.

Refresh the page to clear the search and view all the recording sessions.

Duplicate Recording Sessions

A Recording Session can be duplicated into a new pending session with the same streams.

To duplicate a session:

  1. Navigate to Recording Sessions.
  2. In the Recording Sessions list, select a recording session.
  3. In the Recording Session ribbon, select Duplicate.

Result: The duplicated recording session page opens. See Create a Recording Session for more information on configuring a new recording session.

Delete Recording Sessions

To delete a recording session:

  1. Navigate to Recording Sessions.
  2. In the Recording Sessions list, select a recording session.
  3. In the Recording Session ribbon, select Delete.

Result: The recording session is deleted and removed from the Recording Sessions list.

Deleting a recording session will not delete the files produced. The recorded files are accessible from the Media Library page, located where they were configured to be saved.

Recording Session Status

Use the chart below to identify the significance of a status for a recording session.

StatusDefinition
PendingThe session is created and ready to start recording.
RecordingThe session is currently recording.
FinalizingThe session has finished and the files are being saved to the specified location.
CompletedThe session has finished and all files have been saved.
FatalThere is a fatal error with the recording session or its streams.

Recording Session Import and Export

The shell of a recording can be imported and exported using metadata. This shell data includes streams, bookmarks, and session information. Use this option to import or export information to another VADAAR system and eliminate additional efforts for setting up recording sessions. After importing or exporting the metadata file, link videos to the sessions to complete the recording.

Prerequisite

You must log in with an Administrator account or an account with access controls for the specific VADAAR Sender.

Export Recording Sessions

To export a recording session:

  1. Navigate to Recording Sessions.
  2. In the Recording Sessions list, select a recording session.
  3. In the Export/Import ribbon , select the Export button.

Result: Recording Session metadata file is downloaded.

Import Recording Sessions

To import a recording session:

  1. Navigate to Recording Sessions.
  2. In the Export/Import ribbon, select the Import button.
  3. Select the Choose File button and locate the metadata file in your system .
  4. Enter a name for the recording session.
  5. Select Upload.

Result: Recording Session metadata file is uploaded and the recording session shows at the top of the list.

After uploading a recording to the Media Library, link the recording to its corresponding file in a recording session by:

You must log in with an Administrator account or an account with access controls for the specific VADAAR Sender.

  1. Navigate to Recording Sessions.
  2. In the Recording Sessions list, select the recording session missing the file.
    • Alternatively, in the Actions section of a recording session, select the pencil icon .
    • Or, double-click on a recording session.
  3. Under Actions, select the link icon for the missing stream file.
  4. In the Select Video dialog, navigate to the location of the uploaded recording.
  5. Select the recording file.
  6. Select Add.

Result: The uploaded file is now linked to the recording session and a slash is displayed over the link icon under Actions.

To unlink a file from a recording session:

Prerequisite

You must log in with an Administrator account or an account with access controls for the specific VADAAR Sender.

  1. Navigate to Recording Sessions.
  2. In the Recording Sessions list, select a recording session.
    • Alternatively, in the Actions section of a recording session, select the pencil icon .
    • Or, double-click on a recording session.
  3. Under Actions, select the crossed out link icon for the stream.

Result: File is unlinked from stream and link icon is restored without a slash under Actions.
